It actually took me Saturday and part of Sunday. I had to clean out the area before I could start stacking. I've been using pallets for the past 5 or 6 years and I hate them. This year the bottoms were rotted out so it was a good time to replace them. Went to Lowes and bought a bunch of 8' four by fours and some cinder blocks. The asphalt pad is 25' wide so three lengths of 8' lumber worked out perfectly. As I burn the wood I can simply move the blocks and the lumber out of the way to get access to the next stack.

The rows are a full 5 feet tall, 24 feet long and the length of the splits averages about 18" (1.5 feet) ...

So ... 24 X 5 X 1.5 = 180 cubic feet per row

180/128 = 1.4 cords per row

1.4 X 4 ~5.6 cords

I still have at least one more row of wood in another pile but I have to go get more lumber to stack it.

Very nice! Looks good! Love that John Deere too. Bet you can get some firewood production in with that.

Great job!! Lotsa work that'll pay off later.
The photo with your daughter and the horse should be framed. A classic "almost spring" shot in Upstate NY.

I've had these pics up before. I modified a Carryall with a drawbar and rigging. It works really well to get stuff up from the woods and allows me to carry gear w/o putting it in the bucket. The platform comes off when not in use.

Thanks for the rep guys.

Almost spring is right ... it snowed, groppled and sleeted a bit when I was stacking. Pretty chilly morning with very little sun. Better days are ahead though.

nice job! makes me flicnh a little looking at the stacks, i hate stacking myself! cutting, burning, throwing wood is all fine, even splitting, stacking is for the bird (or kids when i can corral them).

I wish my stacks looked like that.. I just throw mines on pallets and my wood is all uneven lengths:msp_razz:

I hate stacking too. I was considering hiring FLHX Storm because she makes such nice ornamental stacks. She hasn't been on the forum for a couple of weeks and usually adds a lot of color to the thread. Hope nothing is wrong.

One of my buds was commenting about them falling over. I told him not to be wishing evil on me. The rows are stacked tight and you have to put a bit of force on them to get them to move. The plan is to leave them open to the elements until late September then cover them with tarps. I might look into doing something on the top to shore them up a bit.

Must use a Mingo Marker........or a laser to get the wood all of the same length :msp_tongue:
