With my having to fill my generator multiple times a day I was reminded how most of my plastic gas cans sometimes leak around the spout when pouring in spite of how securely I tighten them. A couple are pretty old now so I think the seal is giving up, which is understandable.

Anyone real happy with a specific brand/model of gas containers over a period of time? I want to get a few more cans and feel I'm shooting in the dark.

They have those round metal cans down at TSC, but they start at 2 gallons, and I only mix 1 gallon at a time for the saw.

As far as 5 gallon cans, I search till I find one with a separate vent. I hate those ventless models that glug glug glug the whole time. I've never had a problem with seals leaking on any of them. Maybe I lead a charmed life when it comes to gas cans. :biggrinbounce2:

I tied all my plastic cans together and set them out for the trash man. I went to a few 2 1/2 gal steel Eagle cans from my local NAPA store. They don't roll around on the way to the local Marathon station and the new ventless plastic cans really suck...Bob

I use the metal 5 gallon "Blitz" jeep cans - available everywhere.. Crappy flex spouts (they break off at the bottom) but I fix those (before they break) by pouring runny epoxy into the recess of the lid.

My favorite cans are cylinder shaped and have a short fixed pour spout with a screw on metal cap. I bought a new one a couple of years ago but now they are illegal or what ever. Someone just stole my last one a few days ago. (I forgot it at the gas pump) But I see they still make the same can, it is just galvanized and not red/ w/ gas markings. So... I think I have some red paint.
For myself I hate the removable spouts, always getting dirty, don't seal right and let rainwater in. And aren't as easy for me to pour as the short fixed spout. I guess a lot would depend on how accesible the fuel tank s are.

I like the combi can, 6 Litre gas and 2,5L of oil and they have overfill protection fot the gas !!

The combi can I bought has one of those spouts that pushes down into the can. Really makes a mess on the oil side as when you pull it up the entire outside of the spout is coated in bar oil which immediately starts running down the side of the jug. I pitched mine in the trash about 10 minutes after using it for the first time. I have that gizmo that Trigger Time linked to, but I pulled off the flex tube. Works great.

what's a good combi can to get.

I've switched to steel safety cans, but sure would like to find a good combi can.

I have a variety of metal gas cans. Diff sizes. Usually mix saw gas in eagle 2 1/2 gal. cans. When out and about I always keep an eye open for replacement spouts. They don't seem to be easily available, at least around here.

On replacing gaskets/seals for the gas cans:

Years ago purchased a HF gasket hole punching set. Cheap stuff, but good enough for this. Anyway I either use cork, or my ole' favorite - old inner tube -. Easy to obtain. I usually use a large truck size. It's pretty thick. Also use innertube to patch leather/rubber boots. Use rubber cement, or contact cement. Cheap fix.

I wish Eagle still made the metal gas cans. I wore out the rubber spouts on mine and could not purchase new ones so I pitched them.
The ironsides cans John Ellison mentioned would be great if you could buy flexible metal spouts for them.
I have a few of these, but the spout mechanism leaks after awhile, especially when shaking the can to mix fuel and it sucks having to put the cheezy plastic cap over the spout to keep dirt from entering.

I prefer the combi-can when going to woods, but otherwise i store gas in a 10 liter steel can...

I have these cans too, absolutely great. Heavy thick plastic and the no spill spout works very well. Any other type of no spill spout I've tried on american gas cans never seem to work. This is the only kind of combi can I will buy.

Where do I find such cans? I've tried the Madsens Wedcos and the one I had leaked. Designed with no seal on bottom of the spout when pouring, and the casting of the can's rim was defective. I tried to clean it up which helped, but it still sometimes leaks badly.

So I gave up on combos.:(

I like the looks of those combi cans also, but did a search on the net and could not find them. I did find them on EBAY for $48 apiece, that is crazy:dizzy: If you know any place cheaper let me know.

My father in law one those combicans that is 10-15 years old and still working like new :)

don't care for pull out spouts, but if combi can holds up for 10+ years. that's a pretty strong endorsement.

what's the best place to buy one?

yeooooo... $73 ea...

lucked out and purchased five safety cans at $4 each passing thru Barnstall, OK, coming back from Pawhuska, OK deer hunting.

Been thinking about biting the bullet on one of those myself. Saw them in the Gemplers catalogue. Of course, at $73 for a gas can, it's gonna be like biting a whole magazine full of bullets...
