Sometimes i have to stop a conversation and wait until the noise goes down a bit to continue listening.

I have Tinnitus!

A constant high pitched piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii sound in both my ears - have it for some 15 years now, causes about 30% hearing loss in my case.

It mostly doesn't affect my sleep cycles - knock on wood.

I would love not to have it, but at least it doesn't drive me crazy - yet!

ear plugs are bad. i used to work in a mine many years ago. the safety reps would come in once a year, and show us how bad a job the ear plugs worked. a good quality ear muff is the way to go. and use them all of the time. the mine boss would fine us if we used the ear plugs.

Hearing loss is something you should take very seriously. Your hearing only ever gets worse.
I've heard some people say its worse than going blind because you cant communicate with people. I wouldn't like to find out either way. Always wear hearing protection you'll never regret it.
It's terribly frustrating trying to speak to people who can't hear. My wife has impaired hearing (not from chainsaws) and she is difficult to communicate with at times..My hearing right now is excellent except I understand I hear noises that aren't there. I was wondering why we have so many crickets around here!

Any time you experience a loud noise and it makes your ears rings you damaged your ears. I prefer the inner ear plugs myself but some applications one or the other is not enough and I wear the plugs and the muffs. I like my hearing and sight so I protect them. It's just like smoking, its never too late to change/quit.

One ear high frequency constant pitch, other a lower on-of ringing, probably caused by motorcyle driving. Try to ignore it as much as possible. After half a day of chainsaw use I experience sound- sensitivity for a couple of days. I wear earplugs and - muffs.

Yes sir. Ears ring every day. Makes going to sleep hard and it makes it hard to hear the faint noise of a whitetail feeding through a woods as I'm sitting in a lawnchair strapped to an oak tree 20 foot up in the ait holding a stick and string.

Same exact thing here, but now I am saying ".... excuse me, what did you say...." more than ever too, I am 61, when I was a kid no one even thought about hearing protection.

Lawn/garden equipment and cap guns never bothered me. But when I was 20, I shot my friend's 9mm handgun. First time ever shooting a handgun. I'd shot .22 long guns before, but never a larger caliber, or a short barrel. Two shots in I stopped and said my ears hurt, and put in plugs. My ears were ringing. I went to the doctor a few days later. She told me that it happens when exposed to loud noises and may never go away! My right ear rang for 2 weeks, my left for 45 days. Real hard time getting to sleep. I wear plugs every single time I need them. WEAR HEARING PROTECTION!!!!! I like my ears nice and quiet when they're supposed to be.

Absolutely, my years of logging and farming without hearing protection are defiantly biting me in the @$$ I only started wearing hearing protection when it was too late but not too late to prevent total hearing loss. I'm still looking for the perfect cow horn to use when I'm almost totally deaf. Far as tinnitus goes it's like bad radio reception non stop.....

I don't have ringing in my ears I hear saws running wide open. It happens to me this time of year when we are busy and I'm running them 8-10 hours a day... I wear ear protection, but I hear saws running. What should I do?

I have severe tinnitus. I'm sure mine originated from mowing and trimming lawns from 13-18. At one time we did 21 residential lawns and probably 10 commercial lawns.

Then when I was 40, I got Meniers Disease. I've lost almost all hearing in my left ear and it was replaced with super loud tinnitus. I've grown used to it, but to give someone else my hearing would probably drive them insane. It's LOUD!

A very good friend of mine also suffered from both for years. It changed him into a depressed, crabby old man. Said it sounded like a jet engine in his head and it about drove him nuts.

He just last month underwent a cochlear implant. It worked! He is a new man.

I googled my problem before I ever knew it was a problem and found that tinnitus is fairly common, about one in five have it if I understand correctly. There are a couple of websites from major hospitals that tell a bunch about this condition, what causes it, who is more likely to get it, and some things, mostly non medical, to try to alleviate it. What I did read is that doctor's referrals to specialists are mostly a waste of time and money because there appears to be no cure, just things you can try to lessen the discomfort. Alcohol, caffeine, high blood pressure, certain diuretics, aspirin, and several other things contribute to the problem..

?? shut them off or just let them idle till there empty ?? 1 ringy-ringy, 2 ringy-ringy, .......

Yeah from a young rock and roll career, and some shooting.
but chainsaws, circular saws (especially), and power tools and crowbar-snapping wood planks really did me in. Then it got really bad.

Now I have to remember to wear ear protection. I forget sometimes as it don't seem loud. but if your hearing is already compromised, well that should come as no surprise.
Young guys, wear ear protection! ASAP. All the time. It's not sissy. before it;s too late. This torture is not fun some days.

I've had tinnitis for too many years. Engines, guns, etc. I have started to read peoples lip speech to help me "hear" what they are saying. I really get jumpy when folks come up behind me and surprise me all of a sudden. How 'bout those electric cars in the parking lots, eh?
