I am looking for ideas on constructing a table to dump rounds on next to the splitter.

What I have in mind is when I dump logs here, cut them up Id like to be able to grab a bucket full and dump them on a table built to splitter height. Doesnt have to be large, I would like to be able to move it with my 2650. I am going to use steel as opposed to wood.

Maybe even an "L" shape to wrap the end of the SS table for more area to place wood that needs to be resplit.

I put this together several years ago and I am thinking Ill scale it down a bit and keep it simple.

Looks like a good base Casey!!!

I would look into different casters so it would be easier to flounder around.

Because what's on there I feel would be hard to move around. Maybe some pneumatic tires would work much better.

I could come get that one out of the way for you if needed :).
@Sandhill Crane probably has a few tips as he has an SS setup. I will bring my trailer loaded up with rounds right to the splitter and use for the smaller to medium rounds. If they are larger I set the trailer up as normal to drop the smaller half onto and use the loader to bring 3 or 4 big rounds to the splitter. 3 or 4 big rounds takes a bit of time to split up for me so when I have to reload the bucket it's a nice break, yes I'm lazy lol. I must have lost the pictures of how I use my bucket to hold logs when splitting. It's pretty self explainitory but I'll see if I can find the pictures on here(Cassey I think you may have already seen those).
If I was splitting for my woodshed I would split into the bucket of the tractor and then bring it right inside the shed to wherever I needed the wood at.

I wouldn't put casters on it, the picture was just an idea. I would move it around with the tractor by picking it up.

I also have access to 4x8 sheets of HDPE so thats what is going to go on top.

So probably make it roughly 4x10 with an "L" on one end to wrap the end of the SS.

Can anyone confirm the height of the SSHD? I seem to recall seeing 29" but cant refind that information.

Im setting my operation up to be as mobile as possible. What I like to do is split where where I stack. Wood comes off the end of the splitter and drops right where it gets stacked, literally. My kids pick up the splits and dont have to take a step to stack it. If I make the outfeed table large enough, they wont have to pick it up off the ground.

BUT, the reason I want to make the table mobile is for the times when I can use the dump trailer as the table. Right now I bring 13'4" logs home. But if I ever end up cutting to firewood length and loading the trailer, I can split right off the trailer. That may happen a bit more often now that I have a place to consistently get wood from, but when I bring it home from work, I load logs, not rounds.

Funny, I wasn't picturing casters on it either, but now that you got me thinking, step back, this could be dangerous lol. Using a set of the larger atv style tires mounted in the middle with adjustable legs on the ends would be kick but. You could move a lot of weight(splits, rounds, logs) as well as the table and if you wanted to split in one areaand then transport the splits to another using the table you could. That would be great if you didn't want to track up and area with the tractor after heavy rain or before the frost set in or in the spring.
If the legs had a finer adjustment for setting the table up on uneven ground and also a quick release so the table could be quickly moved to another location that would be very convenient.
Ok, I'm done thinking, well sort of:popcorn2:.

My intention is not to use the table as a means of transporting wood. Just a staging area.

But that would be a cool idea. Although it would have to be built large enough to be efficient.

I laid some steel out tonight and I think 3x6 is going to be large enough for what I want to do. Maybe a little longer, say 3x8. But on the splitter end I'm going to make an "L" to wrap the table of the splitter and increase the outfeed size. Probably bring it over about 3'. So it would essentially be a 6' leg and an 8' leg.

I hear you, it just came to mind as I was thinking about it. I like most of the tools I have to be mobile as it makes it easier to clean the area and for something like this it would be nice to be able to roll it into the wood shed when not in use. I could put it in the back and set the tractor bucket right on it so it wouldn't even take any extra space and it would be free of snow and rain. Set up with wheels in the middle a tongue to be transported where ever it was needed. Another thing that would be nice is if my tractor was on a job I would have another way of moving it.
It seems as though you could move a pretty good amount of wood with it as large as you are talking building it.

I have some thicker red oak boards that were milled on a band saw mill for me at I think 5/4 if that would work better. I do like the way the rounds would slide on a smooth steel surface though.
do you have a picaroon for reaching for the rounds with. I have a couple different axe handles and have been wanting to make one. There's a guy on youtube wranglerstar and I think he has a video on one he made.

In the last pic you can see how I get the truck bed high enough to dump onto the table. Couple of splits under the back wheels. I do this for the 32" long rounds. For 16" I just hand bomb them right onto the splitter beam. I have several trailers that I'm going to convert to rounds tables but just haven't taken the time to do it yet.

This will be mobile. I'm not going to build it so heavy that my tractor cant pick it up. That is my intention. If it does get out of control, I can put it on skids and drag it around, but I don't see there being a need.

I'm going to skin the deck with HDPE. We build gas manifold boxes with 1" and 1/2" sheets so I have access to 4x8 sheets.

But, I can see some benefit on putting wheels on one side. Then I wouldnt have to lift the entire table, just one end...
