I asked this on a different forum but got little in the way of help.

I have a NEW MS460 I want to have ported. Who, in your opinion, is the BEST? I am looking nfor a saw with some TQ, and a long life. This will be a WOODSPORT, no racing it or anything like that.......just work!

Lets hear it............

I think most people are tired of the bickering that comes of this topic; somebody always winds up getting publicly trashed. For one thing it is all but impossible to establish what exactly is the best woods ported saw or what one even is. I think that unless someone actually has done enough cutting to wear out both stock and modified saws and know which lasts longer and what the actual documented increase in productivity is, their testimonials are not worth much. There have been some pretty silly apples to oranges comparisons though. It really is a lot easier to establish what is the best race saw. It only takes 4 or 5 seconds and a ten dollar stopwatch!

I personally had good results with Washington Pro Saws.

I would reccomend his work to anyone who wanted some porting done.

Im sure anyone can reccomend any other reputable chainsaw builder, but I personally haven't had experence with them.

Could be, lol :spam:

I would say don't do business with anyone you don't feel comfortable with. Everyone is comfortable spending your money and putting your assests at risk...

... You be the judge.

I just checked, and their website is shut down. (bad sign?)

Dean took a full time job and has limited his saw building to nights and weekends on appointment only. He has been concentrating on some big race projects.

As far as the best woods port, they are all good. It just depends on what you want. Personally, since I do all my own stuff now I think mine is the best - for me that is.
Not saying they would beat anyone elses, nor do I want to do anyone elses saw, but It's my work on my saw - to me thats the best. Just taking pride - thats all.

What he said...........

Ed

Wont work, I don't know Boston Bull but I do know he runs ported work saws from his other posts. Once you start running those hot rods you just cant go back. Lots of great builders out there.

I can build a descent ported work saw, I am going to test a few out on Redprospector long before I start cutting up other peoples saws though.

The thread starter said he wanted long life saws. If Dean puts boost ports in a saw, along with other stuff that I've heard about, they'll be fast, but may not last. All my 10-15 or so modded work saws are plenty fast, and they last. They've had none of that fancy stuff done to them that belongs on race saws, or maybe for a faller who wants lots of speed, and is willing to accept that the saw might be used up in a short while..relatively.
