Why does the outer dawg stick out so much further? These are oem dawgs.
Inner is 1122 664 0506
Outer is 1128 664 0501

Hmmm I guess that’s possible. I searched quite a bit on here and those are the part numbers I came up for the correct spikes

the factory inner spike is like half the size of the one that’s currently on the saw

The inner is the incorrect dawg the outer is correct you can tell just by looking at it the bottom spike the bottom is a lot longer than the other three on the proper felling dawgs

Numbers 28 and 24 are what I ordered from that IPL. As far as it being some kind of special spike, I’m not really sure.

it doesn’t look like the models with a small clutch cover had an outer spike and this saw only has the one small inner spike. Maybe it is because of the small clutch cover being the reason they won’t line up ?

Stihl part number 1122 664 0501 (outer spike) is now supersede as 1122 664 0509, although the actual part still carries the old part number.
This saw is fitted with 1122 664 0506 inner and 1122 664 0501 (0509) outer.

You beat me to it. So the 1122 664 0509 is the correct outer spike to match my current inner one ?

No because in Australia you could not buy a 460 without the felling dawgs and ceramic chain catcher they just bolt straight on clutch cover size has nothing to do with it

Clutch cover makes no difference.

The outer spike you show in your photos looks more like the 066/660 large pattern 1122 664 0503, but that is the the number stamped on it.
Could you have found a spike for a "Western" pattern or "R" pattern set?

He has the right outer dawg.

The 046/460/461 are a pain in the ass with that different outer dawg. They share an inner with the 044/064/066 and their successors...but only the inner.

I'm glad they set the 462 and 500 up to share both dawgs with all the 044/064/066 and the like. Way more options.

So if I read that correctly- for the MS 460, you just get uneven dogs and put up with it?
We must have been spoiled over here then, because mine came new with the matched inner and outer spikes when I bought the saw.
Sounds like it was the same result over in Aussie as @deye223 mentions above?

No.

He just needs to buy the proper inner felling dawg. #28 on the parts breakdown.

The 460 share an inner with all those other models but the outer is the odd duck, it's exclusive to the 46 series. Minus the 462.

That's all backwards. Your inner spike came off of an 064, why its on your saw I don't know.

There isn't an outer spike made for the 460 that will match that, it's not possible.

Order #28/24 and you'll be all set.

Felling dawgs are so over analyzed on these forums and people chime in that have no idea what they're talking about throwing numbers around and make it 10x more confusing.
