Just curious if the Super jug would fit on a regular 041 av as long as the new jug came with the matching piston? Any problems involved it is a direct switch? Thanks,
JC

yes, as long as you have the piston that matches the jug you should be good to go. The only difference in the av and the super is the cylinder bore, the stroke on the 2 are the same.Hope this helps, and good luck.

041AV vs 041AVsuper

Isn't the carb on a super different? Iv'e seen different kit numbers.

Hmmm, it sounds like I should wait until I find a NOS 041av cylinder b/c there were different carbs used and the av might not fit the super. Is this about right?
JC

intake and carb will fit cylinder just not possitive about carb size. I have an 076av and an 076av super and they have different carbs

I am about to attempt this conversion (actually 041FB to Super) and I have a question about the conversion.

Looking at the IPL, They both use the same size small end bearing (10x14x13) but the part numbers are different.

The FB Wrist pin is a 10x32 pin while the Super is a 10x35 pin. If I use my existing pin, will 3mm of end play at the piston be an issue or do I need to go ahead and order a new pin (and bearing while I'm at it). I'm leaning toward just getting new.

One more thing. When I install the cylinder studs into the crankcase, what kind of locktite should I use and will I use the same on the nuts at the top of them

thanks,
Ian

Edit: Anyone have an 041 service manual? That's one I'm missing from my collection.

Get the new pin & clips. Red high strenth on studs if you know how to remove them properly if you would have to, if not blue 242 on both ends.
Cheapstihlparts has manuals for around 10 bucks

Thanks... after thinking about it, I ordered everything new, including a new bearing. They wanted almost $3 for each nut tho, will get those from Ace Hardware. I figure a decent grade 5 should be plenty and I can get those for less that 50c each.

convert

The intake is larger, carb may work. Use lock nuts on the studs. Loctite everything. Use torx screws where ever possible.
Anything else, just ask. Have converted about six of them each way, up and down.

Thanks Stihltech, if I run into any problems I'll ask. I got the NIB Stihl P&C for $122 shipping included. $42 more than I paid for the saw in the first place... LOL

I got all the parts on order EXCEPT for the piston pin which my local dealer says in NLA

Next step this evening is to go through all my IPLs and see if I can find another saw that uses a 10x35 pin.

Any dealers out there with some NOS pins?

Ian

Ok, I went thru my IPLs and I have a hopeful. A lot of the pins weren't called out by size, it just said "piston pin". I did find that the 044's is called out as "10x6x35" whereas the 041 Super's is just "10x35". Will it work?

Mine shows 1110 034 1502 as a 10X6X35 pin for 041AV 48mm piston.

Good deal. I looked again and the IPL I have just says 10x35 but the same part# as the one yours shows. The 044's 10x6x35 pin is 1128 034 1500. I'll go back to the dealer tomorrow and see if his book has it listed as available and if so, I'll order it.

thanks,
Ian

Yep, apparently. If I'm reading the IPL correctly, it was for saws up to ser# X 29 583 701. beside that it has (16.94) which I assume to be week 16 of 1994.

It would be nice to have a parts cross reference. I used to halve one for cars. Radilator hose out of a certain Mercedes fit my 61 Bugeye, tail light fron a 48 Ford fit the tail light of my 61 VW van. Someone "adopted" it. You would need a modified and unmodified section, with degree of diffaculty.......ah heck thats Lake already.................
