Mimosa Trees

We have a Mimosa tree that is about 5yrs old and is about 12ft tall. It was planted about 5ft from the corner of our house. The roots have run up to the house and against the slab but we can not tell if they have gone under the foundation. Can anyone tell us how deep the roots on a Mimosa tree travel below the surface? How far out from the base of the tree and how close to the house a Mimosa's be safely planted?

Mimosas are very fast growers with aggressive root systems. 5 feet is too close to the house for most trees, but especially the Mimosa. I'd cut it down and plant something further from the house. Space permitting, I'd recommend keeping any large-growing trees at least 15-20 feet from the house.

Mimosa will also reseed everywhere , I would choose a different tree if you can. They are like weeds here. John
