Standing Timber Buyers for Small Lots in PA?

Are there any small operations in or around Northeast Pennsylvania that buy standing timber? Is it even worth it for a few large (in my mind) oak trees? Maybe it would be worth it for a small mill or person that makes custom lumber items???

The problem with small tracts is that it costs the same amount of money to get the equipment to the job as it does for a large tract. If you are only culling out a few trees it is not economically viable for someone to come in and do it.

You may be able to find someone with a portable mill to tackle it for you. I suspect they would probably do it on shares rather than buying it though.

Thanks. There is an outfit locally that has done a few sites already but I can't see any names on the trucks and everytime I am going by it is after they are gone.

I am in southeast PA, but sometimes I buy tracts, but it is for making bundled firewood. We will take any quality logs to a local smaller mill, sell chips to a local mulch yard and the rest goes to firewood. However, we don't pay nearly what a logger sending strictly to a mill will pay. We also do not do tree service work, so nothing near homes or other personal property.

But it really depends on what the market is like in your area. There is much less tree work going on around here now, so sometimes we run short on wood which is when we go shopping. 2-3 years ago I would have never even thought about paying.

Also in NorthEast and looking for logging/sawmill operation. I have a truckload, good access but it it is like pulling teeth. DCNR says should timber out to get undergrowth started, I am trying to get new trees started. Well and good but if you do not have listing of Mills who are interested in taking a truck worth, then why have these seminars
