    Military family needing tree removal

Many of you will know that I've been a member here for some years. I have good friends in Colonial Heights, Virginia, with a large (silver maple?), close-to-the-house tree needing removal. It WILL need to be chunked down and I'm hoping without a crane (which they just cannot manage financially). Access is good: it's immediately adjacent to their driveway.

Please PM me about this takedown and I will connect you with their name and email. This is not just another homeowner looking to get something for nothing: he is career-military and she had brain surgery a couple of years ago. It's been a tough road and some good news would be appreciated. Thanks.

They are (literally) 2 minutes off I-95 in Colonial Heights. Appreciate your offer (I understand it's a "maybe").

Even the raking up is something her doctor has instructed her NOT to do, so it's a matter of not enough hours in a day for her husband, Paul. He teaches at the military college closeby, but it's often an 'up in the dark, home after dark' situation.

Have you seen the tree? Do you know it needs removal?

Career govt workers can cry poor all they want, but when you consider bennies and pension, I wish I was poor like that.

Not to be unsympathetic, Kate, just skeptical having been burned too many times.

Yes, I've seen the tree. Major storm damage plus or minus 2 years ago, LARGE branch sheared off, currently partially unhealed and growing colonies of shelf fungi (haven't seen those in full fruit to be able to identify, just the remains about 15' aboveground). It's a minimum of 40" DBH (again, I didn't measure) and within 10' of 2 portions of their house, and slighly leaning toward either the front porch or the street - depending on the angle you look at it from.

I was there visiting for a day earlier this month: it would be giving me nightmares if it were my tree.

    more information

Upon re-reading, it occurs to me that I have not been clear enough. These folks are NOT looking for a freebie, just a competant job at a reasonable price. They DO need the wood removed and the stump ground. Apologies if I've caused confusion.
