May my Gamo Shadow 1000 RIP

Went to cock my Gamo Shadow 1000 air rifle the other day and it self destructed in my hands. The stock cracked in two at the forearm. I have a Whisper for a back up, but in my opinion the Shadow shot rings around the Whisper. With Gamos approaching the $200 mark and most of their models eliminating the open sights, I'm beginning to think the German-made RWS air rifles are a better deal. I contacted Gamo because the barrel was stampted with a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" placard. I'll be curious to see what their response is. I will sure miss this Gamo, it took care of a lot of pests for me.

    I started out with a 1000

and then sold it for $50 and bought an RWS 34 and then wanted more accuracy and power so I Ordered a .22 Benjamin Discovery from Tim@Mac1 and have been happy since. He does very nice work IMHO.

I didn't mourn too long for my broken Spanish rifle, I went and bought a little German friend. Not too bad for backyard zapping; throws a .22 caliber pellet at 620 fps. However, if I ever needed anything for long range, I would have to get his big brother the Weihrauch HW80. This sucker gives about another 150 fps in .22.

Break barrel = junk, especially if your optics are mounted to the receiver.

I don't care if its German Spanish or English its junk.

If you touch the barrel at all on the Gamo's the point of impact changes. The hinge just has too much play.

Spring air air rifles kinda suck anyways, they recoil forward and torque, making them very inaccurate. Add in the fact that your barrel moves and voila, you have a toy and not a precision weapon.

If you must own a spring air rifle, id recommend an under lever with a gas ram. You still have the forward recoil, but you lose the torque of the spring twisting the rifle as you fire. Furthermore the barrel is fixed to the receiver so your point of impact wont change from shot to shot.

If you must have a mean air rifle... PCP pre-charged pneumatic. Run em off co2 or HPA. You gain the option of a quick follow up shot with the semi's and a quicker follow up shot than with a break barrel. They are more accurate, more powerful, and more expensive. 600 fps in .22 how about 1200.

I saw a video of someone making 200 yard shots in the wind with one of these.

That Condor looks like something from Wolfenstein the video game.
Hey, the Gamo only cost me a click over $100 and gave me a lot of backyard plinking and pest control. It is what it is. My new springer will never need a recharge of co2, neon, or whatever gas/air. My motto is: KISS: keep it simple.
