is it 18 and 17 with parental permission?
is it 18 and 17 with parental permission?
"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other."
-John Adams, 2nd president of the United States
Thats what it was when I joined up at the age of 17. I signed up with mom's permission. I did'nt go to bootcamp until late august 10 days after turning 18 only because I wanted to have most of the summer off before going in. Some of my buddies were 17 though for a bit.
That has always been my understanding.

Amazing that you can join up to serve in the USA and still can't have a drink legally until 21, or in the case of all but Alberta and Quebec here, 19. They don't mind taking your tax dollars either....
It is 17 with parental consent here, but you can not get sent into a war zone until 18, as 17 is considered a child warrior. I was 17 all of one day, 3 Jul 77, first day of basic, before turning 18 the next.
i joined when i was 17 and went to MCRD San Diego when i was 18., i know of some marines that are 17
One has nothing to do with the other. One reason for grabbing young bucks for the military is that their brains aren't complete yet. The part of the brain that evaluates risk doesn't mature until about 25. (That's why insurance rates drop like a rock at 25.)
That's a great argument for young soldiers and NOT young drinkers. As it should be.
