What is there to do in SD?

Thinking of taking the family to SD for summer vacation (July 14th-17th) this year and looking for things going on there. Meeting some other family from WY and thinking the Rushmore area. Let me know what we would miss if I don't know about it. Thanks

Check out Deadwood, pretty damn cool little old town.

Badlands are a must... bring some water, and lotion for the hands if you're climbing around... Hands dry out and start to peel faster than anywhere else I've been. It was fun to climb around and see a snake and a lizard roaming around.

SD most people go places like that to get away from the things to do. The badlands do look cool though. Rushmore would be fun to climb the, faces.

the Black Hills have all kinds of things there. Sturgis, Rushmore, Wall Drug, and all that. Check online for a good tourism website and pick. You'll run out of time before you run out of things to do.

Oh Yeah!!! I went to Rushmore in "99" for the first time. Sent chills up and down my spine. Damn why did i wait so long? Custer State Park, Wind Cave, Needles Hiway, Crazy Horse, check em out. Youll never feel more American than when standing in front of those rock faces!!

The Corn Palace is a nice spot to stop on the way out to Western SD.

Be sure to stick around at Rushmore to see the lighting ceremony at dusk! It is a stunning show!! Someone else mentioned the needles highway. If you go through there, be sure to leave your camper at the campground, nothing longer than 35 ft long can make the turns.

Depending on how much cash you want to get rid of, there are helicopter rides available at both Rushmore and the badlands. Boot Hill in Deadwood is cool, lots of famous folk in that cemetery.

Most of all, enjoy yourself, and make your own memories and traditions! I am sure you will realize that a 3 day stay is just not enough time to adequately see Western SD!
