How would you "survive" without your cell phone?

I am just amazed at how ADDICTED some people are to their stupid cell phones; I think that some would hang themselves if you took them away from them. I know some are necessary and perform "useful" purposes, but some are just way overboard with them.

How would you do if someone took yours away?

The city of baltimore actually issues "free" cell phones to people on welfare. I kid you not. There is an effort afoot to do exactly what your thread suggests, take them away. I couldnt believe it when i heard they issued phones. Really makes you want to pay taxes, doesnt it? So shondelle can call the hairdresser on her free cellphone and get her appointment that she'll pay for with welfare money.

I use mine quite a bit. It is incredibly handy and secure. I use a kindle app to read in bed with the lights off, I use apps for banking, I use BlackBerry messenger, windows live and yahoo messenger. Calls to my office phone are forwarded to it with secure voice over IP, and I can place calls over it as well. I always know what the weather is going to be like, and I always have email access. I use Blackberry traffic because my car gps does not plan routes as well and does not account for traffic. On the drive home, I plug in the aux into the car radio and listen to music, news, or podcasts that download automatically. I also use it for wasting time like surfing the internets, facebook, brick breaker etc.

It is a productivity tool that brings connection and convenience. It can make you more productive and efficient if you want it to

I don't even remember the time before the cell phones. I've carried one on me for 15-16 years. I guess I'm in a stage of total dependence: I don't even recognize the fact I'm wearing a phone anymore.

I don't have a cell phone and haven't ever had one but I wouldn't mind having one for making necessary calls only. I'll probably get a prepaid one sooner or later but I'm sure that I'll hardly ever use it.

As much as I hate my phone sometimes, I kinda like surfing AS wherever I go. I take the phone everywhere with me, but if I don't want to answer, I don't. That's what caller Id is for. The only time I would really have a hard time would be at work. It's just so nice being able to exchange information so easily and quickly.

Be miffed I'm having to pay for a landline phone again? Which when I had one I kept the ringer turned off, I'd just hear people start talking over the answering machine

Usually put less then 30 minutes a month of personal usage. WAY less. Couple hours a week on business.

But I carry both a personal Blackberry and a corporate Droid. Tried to have the new employer just split the bill for my Blackberry, but instead they issued a Droid. The 'berry will get replaced with a Droid when I get around to upgrading next.

(Started carrying a handheld cell in '93 when I worked for Bell Atlantic as a cell phone salesman.)

The thought of phones buzzing and beeping all day long drives me nuts. The only cell phone I have is a company issued cell phone and I have no ambition to buy one for myself. I get out of the house to get away from such things.
