    Any Lever gun fans?

I have gotten the lever itch a few months ago and am looking for a lever gun.

    Any fans here?

I am eyeing a Marlin 1895 guide gun in 45/70. It has 30 rounds threw her. If Wild West Guns makes it, this rifle has it (trigger, large lever, ghost rings, extractor ect..)

I am hooked on a guide gun, I like how short they are, it will make the perfect tractor gun to have with me in the tractor to blast deer with that are destroying our crops. My AR just doesn't quite do a "good" job on deer. It makes a good seagull gun in the spring and woodchuck gun in the spring and summer though.

    I thought of getting a 30/30, but why get a 30 cal when I can have a 45 cal?

If there are any Marlin nuts here do any of you have a Guide Gun and a GBL? That GBL caught my eye but by talking to the owner of this Guide gun I am looking at said that the GBL is to muzzle heavy.

I like my 444S Marlin.....but it is a PITA to clean after shootin' hogs with 405gr WLNDCG Beartooth Lead Projectiles.

That's the only lever I have left.......

I like the newer hornady ammo. Balistic tip in all the lever calibers

Shoot the deer in the head with .223 frangible or HP.

It will do a good job

Yep, got a Marlin 336, Rocky Mountain irons, and a decent scope (forgot the brand name...) on see-through rings.

Damn good gun, we ran some Hornady LeveRevolution .30-.30 through her and that really does improve long range accuracy.

100 yards, group got about .7" tighter from the original 3 or so inch group. I call that a significant improvement, especially based on the fact that it just needed a ballistic tip cartridge, which Hornady finally figured one out. Great idea, and the couple of extra bucks is worth it. I stress anyone considering buying a 336, go for it. It's well made, and it does real well with the H LR ammo.

Several years ago I bought all three kids Browning BL-22 in grade two when a gun shop closed it's doors and sold out at cost.
I often carry a Winchester 9422 in the truck.
When I was 13 I bought a Browning BLR in .243 ($139.97)and my dad bought me a rcbs reloading starter kit. Now after logging over 7,000 rounds through the little gun it still keeps on ticking, it's been re-barreled twice. It wears an old k-4w weaver, never has failed me.
I've still got the model 94 my dad bought new in 59 with graduation money for 58.00. It is pristine.
My only big bore lever is a 1886 winchester 45-70 presentation grade, it is the takedown model.

I know bolts are more accurate and I've got a ton of them, but I like the old lever guns, hell who wouldn't, John Wayne used them.

The only lever gun I never cared for was the Marlin 39a, I was about 15 and saved up to buy one, a whopping 109.00 new, it just never fed ammunition correctly, just too finicky and jammed all the time. It was a turd compared to my buddies little BL-22.

    Been looking for a Pre-crossbar Winny 94 in .44Mag for a while.

Would like to snag a Marlin but the Microgroove rifling in the std. Model sucks with Cast bullets, and the SASS models command a premium.

For those Bambi issues, snag a box of Corbon DPX for your AR.
They Exit every time, and work as well on Bambi as anything else.
Barnes worked with Cor-Bon on the Bullet design back in 06' for special applications, and even though Deer wasn't the primary focus, they fit into the peramiters quite well...especially if Bambi is driving a buick.
    Kinda pricey ammo though.

    Stay safe!

    lever guns

I have a 300 savage with the octogon barrel and a 30-30 Winchester model 94. I sold my Model 57 Marlin 22 rimfire mag. Big mistake. It would shoot quarter sized 5 shot gouups at 100 yards, and it would empty the magazine at that distance and put all 15 shots through a 2 1/2 inch circle. The model 94 is easy to like. paper plate hits at 100 yards off hand all day long and little recoil. It is easy to see why it is a favorite Michigan brush country gun.

I still say shot placement, that and an AR is semi , follow ups are cake.

Grunt and put one right in between the eyes.

got a Marlin 45/70. Punch a clean hole through just about anything. Got a 300lb bear in '04 quartering away at 20 yrds. 405 gr slug went clean through and lodged under the hide on the far side. Didn't like the fact though that it didn't expand at all, though. If you want magnum power, go with Garrett or Buffalo Bore ammo. Just use it in modern firearms. Packs a wallop on both ends.

Lever guns are cool, I don't own one but I like em and would like to pick one up in .38/.357 some time. The first one I shot was a reproduction Winchester 1873 chambered in .44-40 Win. Grandpa got it to go with the .44-40 Vaquero that he got for his birthday one year. Lots of fun to shoot, I think I was about 12 or 13 at the time.

I bought a 450 Marlin 1895 guide gun 5 years ago that has become my go to gun ever since. 45/70 was what I was looking for, but the deal on the 450 new in the box I could'nt pass up. I opted not to do the trigger job for heavy brush cover I seem to find myself in, I got 3x9 leupold vari-x lll on it and could'nt be more satisfied with the accuracy. I did buy a big loop lever a few months ago, but need to get it on one of these days. The 4ft flame is also entertaining at dusk

I've had a Browning BL-22 for 34 years. Great little lever rifle. Holds fifteen-rounds of Stingers; a potent, fast, and light package.

I thought about the 450, but, try to find brass for it for a good price........

That brought me back to the 45/70. Brass is easy to find, and very reasonable.
