Woman attacked by chimp gets face transplant

Woman attacked by chimp gets face transplant | The News Journal | delawareonline.com

A Boston hospital has performed a full-face transplant on a Connecticut woman who was severely mauled by a pet chimpanzee in 2009, The Boston Globe reports.

Later today, Brigham and Women's Hospital plans to announce details of the 20-hour operation, which was performed last month on Charla Nash, The Globe says.

Hands transplants were also attempted, but failed to thrive and were removed.

Nash was attacked by a chimpanzee named Travis, who was owned by a friend in Stamford, Conn. The 200-pound animal went berserk and ripped off her hands, face, nose, lips and eyelids. Police shot and killed the chimpanzee.

Nash has been unable to eat or breathe normally and must rely on feeding and breathing tubes. The face transplant is designed to address those problems.

Brigham has previously performed one partial face transplants and two full-face transplants.

I know a cattle trader who has had a chimp as house pet for many years. The trader was a friend of my father and, so I got to see him many times. Little rascal that chimp was, and very strong.

I saw him climb a scaffolding construction one time, and he decided to throw all tools, paint and the like as far as he could; creating a wonderfull mess... One day, he bit the daughter of the house in her breast, which caused surgery and left a very big scar. After that day, he stayed in a an outside trailor and tied to a rope.

Those animals are not supposed to be kept as pet. Way too strong and unpredictable.

I agree I hope for a fast recovery. And yes you are right about wild animals as pets, but pit bulls are not the problem it is there owners I have friends that have them and they are nicer than my 2 great Pyrenees's. People make the dogs that way if you treat them the way they should be treated they can be mans best friend to.
