    Old school "wet Shaving".......

Well how many here use a double edge razor and a mug n brush to shave? I started back in June when my Grandfather passed, and I received his old shave set. Since then I have accumulated 4 different brushes, 2 old vintage shave mugs, and 5 different razors. This can be as addictive as chainsaws! The quality of the shave is unrivaled, nothing like a little bit of me time, making your own lather (instead of that nasty #### in a can) and shaving with razors that were made up to 100 years ago!

So if your a "wet shaver" chime in, and tell us what you use!

I use a Mint gillette slim adjustable (grandfathers), A shick krona, several gillette fat handle techs, and a gillette super-speed. All of these are loaded with Gillette 7'oclock super platinum blades. I have 2 badger brushes, and 2 boar brushes. My soap of choice is poraso, or VDH de-lux.

Been using a 50's model Gillette for a good while. Cheaper than the disposables, much, much cheaper than the 6 bladed wonders, and does as well as anything. Plain old Barbasol in the can works. I got used to shaving out of a ditty bag, and just can't get into having to use a dozen gizmos to scrape the fur off my face. Some folks get into the process and more power to 'em for keeping the tradition going, I just ain't one of 'em.

It would be nice to find GOOD blades locally though. The generic store brand jobbies at Rite Aid need the strop right out of the pack.

Mug, brush and old double edge is all I've done for years. Yep, the blades do last longer.
I order fine blades on line, cheaper and better than the store brands.

Yes I do. I can get 5 GOOD shaves out of a blade, and can stretch it as far as seven ( my hair is not that course). I buy my blades off of Amazon, and pay 15 bucks plus shipping for 100 blades. So ya figure around 100 weeks of shaving for 15 bucks. How much would those mach 3 cartridges cost for 2 years of shaving?

Unnamed double edge, mug and badger hair brush that I have had since I was a kid is all that I have ever used. Well, there was a couple of brief fiascoes with an electric when I decided to moderenize.

You're talking about what's called a 'straight-razor', and yes I do. You have to know how to sharpen, hone, and strop a blade, or you're screwed. A dull straight-razor will slice your face up quick.

There's a sharpness test called 'HHT' (hanging hair test), where a hair is laid on the razor and with no sliding back and forth, you sever the hair. If my razor doesn't HHT, I won't shave with it and it gets stropped. HHT videos can be watched on YouTube.

My razor is around 100 years old, and it was my dads. . . He gave it to me when I told him I was looking to buy one.

I also use a brush and cup with shaving soap. . . You can really get overboard with shaving gear, lotions, soaps, creams, brushes, etc.
