Interesting that you both point to fuel efficiency. I assumed it was because of all the SUV rollovers where people neglected to check their tires.

Tires with correct tire pressure and a light rolling resistance get you better mpg . Retreads with a couple of pounds less air get less mpg .

Did they give you a life expenctancy for the sensors? I heard that they have a non-replaceable battery in them.

    Thanks.

When a Ford sensor is changed you have to do a procedure to train the computer to know there is a new one installed. As for the battery it is not replaceable but the sensors go into a sleep mode after the car is parked. If you have a low tire light and fill tire the light wont go out until you start driving and wake up the sensor.

Seems like that epa mentioned something about the National Highway Safety plugging safer driving with properly inflated tyres. (read faster common senseless driving in adverse weather). Remember stuff about tying H&H and 18 wheelers into the regs but that ended up in court.
    Everything ends in court.

Same with the Honda. They said it was that your car would read the sensors on your tires, and not the tires of the car in the next lane (?)

Thats correct. Youd be getting false readings from other cars. All you guys who have duel rear wheels are next. Once they fine tune the sensors and computer 1 tons will get them too.

Are the Toyota's in the valve stem? I'm looking at tires for my wife's Highlander.... tire shops are all wanting to push new valve stems, but I'm thinking that won't be possible with the sensors.

Im not familiar with foreign cars. There are new style sensors that look like normal black rubber valve stems that have the sensor attached to it. Not sure if you can just replace stem.

if you have the orig metal stemmed tpms sensors they usually try to sell you an o-ring repair kit with new tire mounting ,specially on alloys because of the corrosion factor

    Right.

There are a lot of parts that are 'supposed' to be single use that many people re-use. 'O'-rings, lock washers, etc. This is one that I have seen at tire shops that they want to sell you with each tire change.
