Your preaching to choir Eric, I'm a farmer! That is the problem with most anything considered only from one sided idealistic visions, but not to worry, 'tis said that the meek shall inherit the world, so a lot of these problems will go away! Do you believe?

Che,asked a question about foxes. The two species,I am familiar with, are the red,and the grey. The red are the more common species associated with foxes,in general.Their diet,is mainly small rodents, bird eggs, grubs,et.The have the keenest eyesight of any mammal, and can hear a mouse,at over a hundred yards. The grey, has often been referred to as the tree fox, because, they can,in fact climb a tree, and often do.They are more nocturnal, than the reds, and are seldom seen .Their diet is about the same as a red,but they have slightly different habits. When pursued,as in hunting,a grey will den quickly, while a red will pull some of the most clever tricks you can imagine, hence"sly as a fox".A grey,is more territorial than a red, hence less range.I have pursued reds, for miles, with no success.I got "outfoxed",many a time,by old Reynard. They are very interesting animals, but again, part of the food chain,so to speak.I do think, however, because of the sensitivity issue, with no malice intended, that the pictures should be in the off topic forum .Maybe a hunting-trapping portion, would be a good idea.

That's easy; you club it like a baby seal first so you don't get shredded.

Keep in mind that PETA is one nose hair away from being declared a terrorist organization for their open promotion of terror tactics (bombings, arson, etc) as a means for public policy change. Additionally they are hypocrites, since their current president is being kept alive by insulin injections, as are many diabetics. (Pharmaceutal insulin is the product of many years of animal medical research.)

If you get the Showtime cable channel, try to catch the "Penn & Teller's Bull$hit" episode covering this bunch of useless idiots. It will tell you all you need to know about PETA in 30 minutes or less! And P & T sloppily chow down on all types of meats throughout the whole show

I'm against PETA myself--I think they're idiots. Just because they use insulin does not, however, make them hypocrites. For example, were you aware that much of modern medical knowledge is based on grossly inhumane experiments on humans that Nazis performed years ago? Does that mean one cannot use modern medicine and denounce the experiments of the Nazis without being a hypocrite? I think not. Just because we use available knowledge does not mean we have to condone where that knowledge came from.

Furthermore, there is not a man alive who can not be considered a hypocrite in something. In fact, hypocrisy doesn't inherently bother me, as it's a normal human action.

Hmmm. Do they still extract insulin from sheep pancreas? If so, I don't think they wait till the sheep die a natural death.

Al & Curt, thanks for the info.

Curt, it's too bad that your area is overpopulated....pushing the foxes into your neighborhood. No win situation....but I know who's going to lose.

My parents moved to an area in MN that was mostly farmland back in the early 60s. Now it may as well be one big long shopping area. Still...they have a few hold outs....strange to see deer & raccoon in areas that are now all cement/asphalt and 'lawns'. Kinda sad.

As far as them being rabid, that's one thing nice being in a rural area.....I can just consider them ALL (coyotes, skunks, raccoons, 'possums, fox, etc.) possibly rabid. There's enough ROOM, that unless they're acting wacky....I can just let them go their own way. There's a skunk in our barn that I'm not so happy to share areas with though......

Al...I won't say I have ANY desire to hunt/trap....but I think I'd love the observing part. You have to spend some real time to get a feel for these animals.

While pork insulin is still available, the vast majority is completely synthetic and has been for the last 15 years.
