    Trouble came home tonight

So the wife came home from work tonight pretty upset. I asked her what was wrong and she told me that she was let go today........damn...now what. I told her not to worry, that this happened for a reason, and that things will work out. Just hope I'm not wrong!

Luckily work is steady for me and with the heat it's getting bussier. She's got a in demand career so hopefully she will find something soon. It's just not what I expected to hear tonight. Then again I guess no one ever expects that news.

Now I'm just sitting up thinking when I should be sleeping. But I can't. Hope that things will work out. Not looking for sympathy, I know lots of folks got it worse than me. Just disturbed I guess. Figured I'd share some thoughts with you all.

Yeah, it's tough but you're right to keep positive about it. At one point some years ago, my wife was laid off unexpectedly. She keep going, did some volunteer work to keep visible and soon she had an even better job.

Tough situation to be in. I guess I've been pretty lucky my whole life regarding work. Best of luck to you both.

I talked to a chickadee today I know. Last time I seen her she worked in real estate today she was a clerk in a Dollar General store. Five years ago she sold a house for me, today she sold me a candy bar. She said there wasn't enough money in real estate to stay alive anymore and getting worse every day and let her license go. Your wife could luck out and get something better or not. Good luck to you both.

Hopefully she at least had some advance warning. My layoff came rather suddenly although I did know that I would probably be the next one to go. Shop started with 23 at beginning of year. we were down to 8 when I was let go. Economy got us.

I was laid off a few years ago. That is when I started my own business. Although it is still a "side" business, it has produced a lot of additional income in that time. Keep your heads up, and like my father told me when I was unemployed. Treat finding a job as a job, work hard at it, and it will pay off. He was right.

to some, losing a job can be a very emotional set back, which is understandable. a job means plenty to any one.

when i worked at a GM parts plant, people would beg to get laid off because not only did they get an unemployment check from the state, but, GM/union also gave them an additional check to equal 95% of their weekly pay check.

Hold your head up high and proud. I quit my job of 12 years in 2009. They were treating us bad, forced us to use vacation for a 2 week layoff, then turned around and let temp. workers work during the "layoff". I could not work even though I wanted to. Then in a plant meeting the boss told us that time were hard and to be thankful we were not being permanently layed off, and if we had special plans that we could come to her, discuss it, and get around it. I had already bought tags to go big game hunting in Wyoming that fall. She told me that if I do it for you, I'll have to do it for everyone. She also nixed the plans of another mechanic who had been planning a wedding. ( I'm thinking of a word to describe her that rhymes with ditch). So I used the two weeks of to get another job at a milk processing factory. Got back from vacation, put in two weeks notice, negotiated to be able to go to Wyo. on my hunt, and went to work at my new job. Six months later that company went "belly up". Happened right before thanksgiving. Unemployment was running 18% in my county in N. Nevada. Did not matter, kept a positive attitude and by Feb. I had an even better job a another leader in the food industry. Keep a great attitude and remember that this is America, The greatest country ever, a land of opportunity for those who apply themselves even during an economic downturn. Good luck in your wife's job search.

Keep your chin up, things happen for a reason, and often when a door closes, well you know the rest.

12 years ago I was fired from the only job I had ever been fired from. I was working in a truck shop, and on the day that I was supposed to leave to go to a 2 week school for Cummins, the boss man called me in the office and fired me on the spot. The reason? According to him, I took three hours longer than book time to do a complete overhaul on an old Detroit, and he just said they just flat out couldnt afford to have a mechanic that was slow. To top it all off, I had gotten a bonus every single month for the past 19 months for remaining above book time on all of my repairs, and my come back rate was 0 percent.

I spent the next week very depressed. The biggest thing I couldnt get over was why I was fired. It made no sense. And since I had used my own personal credit card to book my hotel accommodations and airfare, I paid through the nose big time. I felt betrayed, hostile to my family, and began to doubt myself. My neighbor saved my butt, he just didnt know it.

He had a Toyota pickup that no shop in town had been able to figure out why it would hickup once in awhile, and just ran rough occasionally. Feeling bad for me, he offered to let me take a look at it for some cash, and I reluctantly took the job.But I had little confidence in myself at that point and figured if nobody had found the problem, what chance did I?

I found the problem after an hour, a plastic nipple that the vacuum advance hose plugged on to had a crack in it, and every once in awhile it would shift from vibration and would lose vacuum. My neighbor talked to anyone and everyone he could think of, and within two weeks I had ever imaginable repair in my little shop. rototillers, lawn mowers, saws, cars, trucks, you name it. Went into business for myself, and I make in 9 days what I made in a month at that truck shop.
Sometimes you gotta close that door to get a window open somewhere else. Keep your chin up man, something else will come along and it just may be better than what you had!

    Good luck!

Just remember guys, there are real people on the other side too. I was a Plant Manager for awhile and trust me it wasn't easy giving out the bad news. I didn't have a problem firing guys or girls that needed firing but with the economy in the can and cutbacks everywhere we had to let good people go and that was tough. The company I worked for was family owned and they made many cutbacks on their side long before they started on people. We started doing all the plant maintenance instead of hiring it out, we tried to keep everything in house if we could even if it cost more upfront at least it kept our guys working. It came down to a matter of company survival, they just couldn't afford to pay people when we weren't shipping product out the front door, so only thing to do was to reduce numbers. This helped guys though as they finally had to learn new things and different jobs within the company. Lots of the good guys went on to start their own small companies. I work for another company now but am expecting my lay off notice in 3 weeks, guess I'll be one of those guys that learned everything he could while he was there though. My wife and I have a grass cutting business that she works 3 or 4 days a week at and I keep equipment running, it won't support both of us but at least we have a customer base that I can tap to get work from. I'm a carpenter so I expect to keep busy doing small jobs until a full time job comes up.
Hope your wife finds a good job soon.
