    Pope John Paul II

For those of you who havent heard already, the pope has passed away. Which for him is good news, no more suffering, and misery. now we'll just hear about it for the next few weeks on the news. I hadnt expected it to happen so soon.

I wonder who will be the next pope.
Do you solemnly swear to sit down and shut up? No? good welcome aboard.

Its a sad and joyous day. Sad because there was so much more that he wanted to accomplish, yet joyous because he is united with the Father. We heard it on the radio today shortly after 3 pm. I said to my daughter, "Well, your mom finally got to meet the pope. She always wanted to." I can picture the two of them right now, planning how to get our pastor to install kneelers in the church.

    May he walk with God.

I figured that Pope John Paul II knew that this was it when he decided to stay home rather than go into the hospital.

I'm also young (26) and am devoutly Catholic, and I'm surprised he lasted this long. I remember back in '99, he declared the year 2000 as the Great Jubilee, and many wondered if he'd live to see that. Well he did, and then some. He was an extrordinary man, and a role model for anyone, of any faith or creed. Many of his ideal were not uniquely Catholic, or even Christian. He just harbored ideas of unity, understanding and toleration. His role in the fall of communism is well documented and known, and the principles he's set forth for us Cathoics has been tremendous, and often eye opening, putting to the wayside many issues that have plagued the church and promoted schisms amongst the major religions. He's helped put so much behind us, all of us. And to see on the news middle Eastern Muslims mourning his death in mosques today, well that pretty much says it all.

Tremendous man, and simply knowing of him makes me want to be a better Catholic.

    Oldsaw, thanks for posting.

    Pope, Shiavo (spelling?)....

2 down, 1 to go. They always go in threes.

Sorry, forgot to add that in there.

Sometimes the quality of life comes to a point where I wouldnt want to live.

I have defined this point to some friends and told them if I get like that take me out the pasture and do me the favor.

Brings up a good debatable point to the religious (Christian) about medical practices and how it works with God's will for our lives.

I think the Pope illustrated best how to live according to God's will. He's been hobbled and frail for the last many years, and yet he lived. He operated and did his job. He was obviously in pain, but he had more to do. I think that our medical abilities are a gift from God, in that they are the fruit of our ability to think and learn and apply it. Yeah, there are lines to be drawn and not crossed, and we could get into all kinds of stuff like stem cells, cloning and so on, but for the point at hand, the Pope lived through all of his ailments and WANTED to live. He wanted to be seen at mass and amongst the public. He's a shining example of the value of life and the need to live on and function and be a human being until your race is run. He may have been old, but not too old. He was still the Pope up until the moment he died. Just because he couldn't walk or even talk, he was still the Pope, and he still carried the responsiblity and respect of the Pontificate.

I admired JP2 the man greatly though I did not always agree with his point of view, or that of the Church just as many members do not. He, along with Ronald Reagan, is one major reason why most of Europe is not under Russian/communist control today. I do wish I had attended one of his Masses when he visited here, but it did not seem important at the time. It was difficult to watch his public appearances recently and I was sad to see him pass, but onto a richly deserved reward. RIP John Paul the Great.
