No one this evening? I'm well on my way, beer wise. Cheers![]()
Will be hitting it in a few hours. It's 5:07PM here. Taking a break from stripping, cleaning, and reassembling the filthiest saw of all time. It's a Homelite 750 packed with a couple pounds of oil, pitch, dirt, and dog hair. Lots of dog hair. Tore it down, and have been soaking parts in diesel and scrubbing away. Most of the way done. Will be reassembling it with a new intake boot. Other than the grime and some missing paint, this beast is in surprisingly good shape. It was a logging saw in this area in the '70s and '80s. The son of the original owner traded me a saw in exchange for getting this 750 squared away. When I'm done tonight, some beer and a good cigar will be my reward.....![]()
Vodka & lemonade going very well tonight. Cheers!!

I'm embarrassed to say Coor's light. This is why I seldom drink diet beer, not a lot of anything except a gassy, bloated feeling.
Cut all day-then we'll refuelIf you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there.

you should be embarrassed.
I'm at work, whiskey will wait until 0630 tomorrow.

A quote from 2dogs
"I firmly believe in the philosophy that safety is the number one priority in the woods. Having said that I feel that safety starts with the proper mindset and is followed closely, very closely, by the proper skillset. I think there is a tendency to offset poor skills by buying more safety gear."
"Amateurs should stay away from big saws in big wood."
I agree. The "silver bullets" just make me piss a lot and give me a headache. That's the prefered cheap beer around here, so I'm often handed one by my well meaning friends as that's what they buy. PBR isn't even sold at many stores here. There's a gas station near my house that carries it though.
Here it is partially torn down. This is AFTER the first attempts at spraying it down with my kerosene/ATF mix (that usually wipes saw grime right out) and letting it soak.
There's the largest recovered piece of the old intake boot next to the new one. Old boot turned to chewing gum.......yet the saw still ran.
New boot and impulse hose in place on cleaned engine. Put that aside and rebuilt the gummed up Walbro WB.
The old warhorse back together.
Unfortunately.........I'm not done with it yet. Before I started the project, I noticed that the throttle was sticky. Thought it was just gummed up (not a hard assumption to make based on how the saw looked). Got it all back together.............and found the real problem. Homelite cheaped out and made the throttle trigger out of plastic. The hole in the trigger where the throttle rod fits in is worn out. When you pull the trigger, the rod slides out of the hole and jams against the inside of the handle. DAMMIT. I'd finished getting the saw together at about 10PM last night (so firing it up wouldn't have been the best idea..............but I was gonna do it). The stupid trigger has put it on hold. Now I've gotta find an NOS trigger or a good used one.....
