    canker on goldenrain tree

This appears to be some sort of canker to me, but I wanted to get others opinions. I have researched that Koelreuteria paniculata is suseptible to a canker.

yup it can get botryosphaeria (bot) canker and nectria. yours looks like bot obtusa canker, see p. 126 in the Sinclair/Lyon Diseases book. Entered through sunscald and bark splits at the forks.

check roots, then treat by taking off dead tissue, sanitizing with hydrogen peroxide, and applying a sealant where cracking is likely.

yeah outside the box maybe but what do you have to lose?
