stihl 036 oiling problems
Well, I'm batting 500 on fleabay saws. The 440 was great, the 036 does a great job of oiling my pants leg and boot. It looks good, runs good, but the chain is getting no oil. I pulled the cover, clutch, etc. There is a lot of oil behind the clutch. I am suspecting the oil delivery hose, but am reluctant to start the saw with it torn apart to prove it.
Any help or insight from you guys would be greatly appreciated. |

I had the same problem
People here were really quite helpful about it. I took off the plastic chain brake cover after removing the clutch and looked at the oiler. The hose was severed and was spitting the entire compartment full of Bar Oil.
I took lakes advice and used some fuel line for the fix, but the actual oil line kits are a PITA, but are easily available from some of the site sponsors here. Be careful and check the "spigot" that attaches to the oiler itself. It is really easy to break (did that one) and at the other end of the line, it will fit into the very small hole with a brass fitting spreading it out and holding it in place. Be very careful with the small bolts holding in the oiler too, they are itty bitty threads and can strip (thanks for the warning last time guys) very easily. Good Luck, and let us know how it comes out. Jason

Do yourself a favor and pull the clutch and oil pump it will be much easier to fix the line. Don't forget the clutch is reverse thread.

OK!...oil pump is in hand. I found a distorted delivery line as if it had heat applied to it...like a "heat shrink bubble. Sure enough, it has a pinhole in it.

Oil Pump Hose
The best I can measure, the hose is approximately 5/32" ID, and between 15/64" and 1/4" OD.
I just installed the oil line replacement kit last night on my 034 Super, and it was a job, but finally got it done, thanks to some tips that I read that was posted by Lakeside awhile back. Hope this helps. |

Buy the Stihl oil hose kit... In addition to the hose, it contains a new brass end and a coil spring to keep the hose from colapsing..Don't try to shoehorn in a no-metric hose size..I n a SQUEEZE, you can use stihl standard fuel line but it may not take the high temps radiated off by the clutch drum.
Kit - part number 1124 007 1010. Cut the hose to exactly 74mm... Do an AS search for the process... (takes heat..)

036 oil prob
Great site.Glad I found you .Was searching for a place to get a (scarce it seems!) workshop manual for an 036 that a lady had in her shed. She wants me to clear a woodland up a bit.First I found the chain gnashed and guide bar bent, chain catch missing.Replaced that, cleaned it up and got all the other bits and pieces to do the job and oh dear! same problem as what hvy048 described. All sounding and looking fine ,but no oil onto the guide bar.I think I have a clear idea it's not the pump, but rather the feed hose.I also find oil coming out of the adjuster screw. Will check hose out tomorrow. Thanks for the tips.Keep up the good work.

Southern man,
I got some valuable help from folks at this site, and I see you are too. A special thanks to Jason, and Lakeside who helped him get this problem straightened out. It is a great comfort to me to have all this knowledge to tap into. Jack |

Thanks a ton for the help. Here I am,sitting all the way in England with a prob and you diagnose it and solve my prob from there in the US.Guess there's some good things to be said for the high tech coms of the modern era, even if it gets a bit stressy at times.Sorry took a while to get back ,but I think I sent my reply the long way round, via a Ms Jennifer Johnson.
All the best till next time.As I say saw's sorted and grand. Was the hose. |
