I am working on a 028 WB. The oil pump needs replaced. The piston is wore so it slids back out of the bore just a little. Also it has a couple of the teeth stripped off the gear in the pump. Its a 2 screw pump. But, when I look at the IPL's it does not show a replacement pump for the type of unit I have. Or is 1118 640 3211 a replacement for the earlier pumps? A new piston is listed for the unit I have but just how do you get that little pin out to get it apart.
Thanks
Bob

There is a little hole on the side of the pin boss

You need to use a sharp tool to move the pin up and out of the boss enough to where it can be removed.

If the piston is sloppy I doubt very highly that the case is still usable as the case wears long before the piston.

I have good used pumps available

I'm with PesT... if the body is worn you are just throwing good money away - it will either leak like a sieve or the moment it jambs you will strip the gears (again?).

1118 640 3210 is the current replacement, but at $74 each (it comes with a new worm gear with metal drive), buy used if you can.

Thanks guys for the help. I have the older style in this one right now. Its got the plastic gear in it with the solid end on it. I did cut the plastic and push the pin out to remove the piston. I see that Cheap stihl has a pump with teh number 1118 640 3200 listed. My local dealer was not much help with this number. But, when you blow up the pic of the box its actually 1118 640 3201.
Is this just a older number for the new 3210. I am planning on just installing a new pump for the customer if I can find it at a reasonable cost.
Pest, what would you like for a good used one?
Thanks
Bob

I have noticed that the later? oil pumps on the 028 AV and AV Super's have white plastic end caps on them. These plastic caps fit very loosely. Are they supposed to be that loose or is it better to fit a rubber O ring around the cap to help snug them up in their mount? Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread but so far I have seen two types of pumps on 028 saws and was curious.

The piston is on the other end

The cap is only to keep dirt out of the end of the housing and it is held securely when installed in the saw.
