Again, thanks for the id on my previous tree and bush. It's always nice to know what you have on your property. I have 2 more trees that I would like to know what they are. Here's pics of the first one. It has redish green leaves and seems to be a maple again but I'll leave that to the perfessionals to determine.

Here's the other tree

The other tree is a "sapling" growing in one of my lily bushes. I was thinking about transplanting this to somewhere else but would like to know what it is first. Here's the pics. Thanks for the help.

The first looks like a Red Maple, Acer rubrum. The second looks like Ailanthus altissima, Tree-of-Heaven. An invassive weed tree.

Scratch the bark of the second one and you'll see why it's called pisswood. Kill it.

The first tree is not an acer rubrum but a hybrid cultivar I believe. maybe a norway cross. A closeup of leaves spread out with buds shown might help.

Brad you're a little too quick on the id there eh. Fothergilla? Come on man.

I'm sure that I will be wearing that "Fothergilla" sign around my neck for awhile but what are you talking about Guy...norway cross? Do you mean a hybrid? Hybrid with what?
The only other species that I know of that will cross with Acer platanoides is Acer truncatum. i.e. 'Keith'sform' & 'Warrenred'. Of course Acer rubrum will hybridize with Acer saccharinum i.e. 'Armstrong'. It could be a Freeman Maple but I doubt it.
From the picture of the single leaf, I am guessing Red Maple. Images of the buds, bark, flower and seed would be useful tools.
brushcutter...have you seen any samara or seed on this maple? If so, when?

How about not guessing?

Schwedler Maple
Acer plantanoides 'Schwedlerii'

Doesn't hold the color as well as Crimson King, but more cold hardy...been around for over a century.

These upper midwest trees are a little different than those deeper south ones. Where's a Live Oak or a Loblolly Pine when you need it?

The first tree is a cultivar of norway maple, red maple leaves only have 3 lobes. The second is either walnut, butternut, or ailanthus. Break of a leaflet and crumble it, if it smells lemony it is a walnut/butternut.

Hate to butt in, but I don't see any hair on that ailanthis, and the bark looks too dark as well. Looks like walnut to me. No way am I getting into that maple, way too many cultivars!

If you can remove a leaf with the petiole attached, then squeeze it, if a milky substance comes out , it's a norway maple of some sort.

Wow, I love the fact that so many people are willing to help me on this. I'll try to take some more pics of the bark, and seedy hellicopter things on the maple. It's still holding the seeds as we speak. Thank you for all the info so far. I'm researching all the types that you guys are posting to aid in the search. Anymore ideas, let me know. And as for the second one, I think I'll just rip it out. I was just curious to what it was but it seems that the overwelming sense is that it's a weed tree. Any suggestions on a nice tree for wisconsin weather? I'm thinking about planting a tree. I'd like a unquie tree if I could. All I see in my neighborhood is those silver maples that you guys helped me with before. thanks again.

If it has seeds on it now it is not a Red Maple. A unique tree? hmm...how about a Ginkgo? Maybe something like this.

I'm not a pro arborist, but I think I know a Norway Maple when I see one! :D

That first tree is Acer planatoides, IMHO. Venturing further, the purple hue hints at the ubiquitous 'Crimson King' cultivar. The purplish petioles and veins are another hint. The leaf tips are also sharply pointed - another Norway feature. Sugar maple leaf tips are rounded.

Definitely not saccharum or rubrum, IMHO.

Ok, I'll butt out now...;)

How about a paperbark maple, a yellow wood, maybe a black gum, dawn redwood, larch, bur oak, english oak.
