I recently put a new hyway piston and cylinder on a 395. I can’t get it to run right. It is flooding out right away, blowing gas out of the muffler and decomp. I’ve tried another carb off a running saw and the same thing is happening. It did fire and ran super rich and wouldn’t take any throttle at all. It seems to have good spark, not sure where to go from here.

Did you find and fix whatever took out the original top end in the first place?
Cylinder and piston swap out have sweet F all to do with a flooding issue- that happens before the volatile mixture gets inside the compression zone of the cylinder.
Massive air leaks though, they can take out an original top end and stop a replacement from firing up.

I'd check the timing, the cast in key and small taper of the 395 flywheel is easy to slip.
