Mine came with a little square thing that looks like that dresser, that must be what it is, how do you use it???

The dressing block that came with your grinder is to shape the contour/profile of your wheels so that they grind a rounded gullet in your chain teeth, and to avoid grinding into the tie straps. It's important for doing a good sharpening job. http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=46450&catID=153

The Oregon version of these grinders come with a contour/profile gauge for the different wheel sizes. It is shown and described in the Oregon manual on page 4 and page 8. I don't know what came with your grinder or the manual that came with it. http://www.oregonchain.com/accessories.htm

I disagree somewhat with MGA's post in that I would only use the wheel dressers he mentions to clean and square the edges (circumference) of conventional grinding wheels. You are never supposed to grind on the face of grinding wheels unless they are specifically designed for this use as they can explode. I would especially not recommend grinding on thin wheels such as those used with the chain grinders.

It is best to buy good quality wheels.
