Don't know about the others, but the Jonsered will remain viscous to something like 20 below.

I'd ask around your local area and see what they are using. Out here we rarely change, but it doesn't get all that cold. I have some 20wt, but it's way too thin at 30F.


It also depends on your saw. A pro stihl (for example only) will heat the bar oil due to crankcase/oil chamber contact.

At the temps we see during the winter in Ohio, the Stihl summer oil turns into molassys. The Winter stays nice and runny and is much easier to pour.

i use the stihl winter mix all year round, it works well in the winter, and keeps the bar nice and wet in the summer

also reduces alot of stress on your oil pump. ment to add

I'll be using stihl winter mix......it seems to have the flow of motor oil with the viscosity of syrup...The group that I cut with vary on this.....one uses 15w40 in the winter, another used motor oil year around,yet another uses winter bar oil. I would think the saw manufacturers have a good idea of what works.

Cold weather oil

I use 2 kinds. Both work well for me. I had previously used a TON of the Stihl cold weather oil but have now started using the Dolmar. I use both of them, both work VERY well and stay thin. I've used them both to probably -10 Fahr. Your about the same climate as me here in northern NY. COLD!!!!
