Ok, first off, sorry I haven't taken a picture yet.
I spent a few hours(!) alternating between muriatic acid for a while and then hitting it with sandpaper for a while. I think I've got nearly all of the aluminum out. But I've still got some grooves in the cylinder above the exhaust port - I'd say about six or seven grooves above the port, and one groove on the right that runs from the top of the cylinder down beside the exhaust port.
All this sanding has made the grooves fairly smoothed out, but they are still grooves, just with nicely blended edges.
What do I need to do? Get a hone and hit it until it either cuts through the nikasil or cleans up the scoring?
Say "good enough" and pop in an aftermarket piston?
Give up and buy piston AND cylinder?
Or just get the used 029 motor assembly off of Ebay for $90 or so...
