Hello Climbers,

After years on the ground running the saw, I decided to learn climbing as best I could with what limited resources were available here in Louisville, KY. I have read the "Tree Climber's Companion" cover to cover several times, and watched the "Basic Training for Tree Climbers" videos (Rip Tompkins & Ken Palmer).

I have gotten the basics down fairly well for a self-taught climber. However, I have yet to spend a few days with a real instructor who can "show me the ropes" (bad pun), and more importantly what I am doing incorrectly. A good climbing school is the next step for me. I see many good comments about ArborMasters.

  • Can you recommend a few good climbing schools that are worth the money?

Many thanks for your great help!

Even though you posted in the rec climbing forum it sounds like you're talking about how to climb and use a saw in a tree. I can recommend some good rec teachers if you want to focus on climbing only, they don't cover work technique.

As far as My own Personal experience , training thru Arbormaster
met and far exceeded My expectations.Have been in the Business
20 or so years (mostly in a B-Truck) and felt I was overdue to
step out on the limbs as it were....
I took Level 1 Climbing in Au 06 and followed that up with
Level 2 in Oct 06.some might say it's a bit $$ but for Me it was
invaluable, would do it again with out reservation.
E-mail me if you want to know more....!!
