I finally tore down the gearbox of my broken extended reach hedge trimmer. The pinion gears are stripped and it was a real PITA to get the input shaft gear out. It has two ball bearings pressed onto its shaft, and then that assembly is pressed into the gearbox housing.
Anyway, after all that work and cracking the housing, I went to the Stihl dealer and they informed me that the gears come as a set with bearings & some other stuff, and it costs $147.
But, the whole articulating hedge trimmer gearbox complete with blades costs around $240, and the 0° gearbox costs $145 also with the blades. So I guess I am buying a replacement 0° trimmer head.
Just blowing off steam.
