I know I will be showing my ignorance here, but I need help. I just picked pecans from my father's home and found four pecans which already have a small root growing from them. There is already a small crack in the shell with a about a one inch root growing. I would like to plant these and try to get a tree or two.
At the present time, I have the seeds soaking in water. I've done a little reading on this, but want to make sure that I follow the correct steps before planting. I would appreciate any help here that you can give.
Thanks!

Either plant them where you want them to grow, or put them in a very deep container. They develop a long taproot.

Should I peel the shell off and plant it now? How should I care for it?
Keep the shell on, plant it in a sunny spot with good dirt. Dont' let it dry out but don't drown it.
