Is Hackberry worth milling? (Celtis occidentalis L.
common hackberry
)

I will be cutting a fair sized Hackberry with the idea that it's will be firewood. Taking one look at the tree I see that the there would be an easy 14' maybe 16' X +24" log in it.

Is there any use for Hackbeery lumber? I have plenty of Red and White Oak.

Burn it or mill it?

Thanks for the replies! :cheers:

Beat me with a shovel,there will be more Hackberry later.

Change of plans, when it hit the ground, found a new use.

There is a near perfect tripod in it that will make a platform for a deer-stand, the rest will be firewood.

Hackberry has to be tough, there is a natural limb-graft grown into it that is sort of interesting. It may be common but I never seen a graft as big as this one before?

Hackberry looks great on the inside, and has more character than Cherry and some of the Oak species. I have two short logs to mill shortly and I think they will make great cabinet boards. Whack'em up! Josh.
