I have 2 Echo 306s and BOTH seem to have malfunctioning purge bulbs. The bulbs get to where they will not fill with fuel and the saw will not run for more than 1 second at a time.

Today I took the air cleaner off and observed that when I pressed and released the purge bulb, air bubbles moved in the fuel line from the carb towards the bulb.

This isn't normal is it? Has my purge bulb or some other part gone bad?

FYI these saws were bought this year.

Maybe this will work

it sounds like there might be some sort of a one way valve that has gone bad, causing the purge to work backwards. All I can find right now is my safety manual and warranty book. You might try looking for a leak where the fuel line meets the primer bulb, could be clogged or leaking air. Where in WA are you at? I could meet you somewhere with my 306 to compare and see if something looks all out of place. If that doesn't work, I'll give you ten bucks apiece for them. Oh, hell, I'm feeling generous tonight, how about 15 bucks?

Sounds like they are low on fuel, have leaky fuel line, or the check valves in the carb are sticking.

Usually I see this on a saw that has sat for around a year with mix gas in it, and the oil seperated from the gas in the carb.

If it was purchased under a year ago, It is still under the ECHO 5 year Consumer warranty, unless it was purchased before that warranty was put into effect, It still had a 2 year warranty if I recall.

Id find my receipt, and take it to a dealer for some warranty lovin.

Just wondering, are we talking about primer bulbs, never had an echo.

Yes, I found the check valve in the parts catalog but it doesn't show exactly where it's located in the circuit. Makes sense that valve would be the problem.

I've run these saws a lot since February.... gone through 2 gallons of bar oil so the gas hasn't gotten a chance to sit.

I love the weight for carving but am not real happy with these little Echos...

Thanks,
Butch

Tri-Cities is far, far away from Lakewood, WA.

Might also want to check to make sure the the bulb itself has not developed a crack and the seal on it is also good.

Bingo! those stupid primer bulbs get little teeny pin-hole cracks near the center on the cast lines (?) that are near impossible to see sometimes and can cause much unwarranted grief (replace the silly thing, about 6$ unless its a specialised one (like the xxx fs36 ones Stihl has, 20$ gah!)). It'd be my first guess having done battle with too many of the things (and more to come). Just the junk they make 'em out of I think, not UV protected, they dry out, get brittle, and pfffffft!

 As always stand to be corrected, but it sure sounds horribly familiar.

This is the first ive heard of Primer problems on the little Echo's.

I deal with primers all day on poulans and Ryobi Trimmers...generally, you look at the carb, find the side opposite the little steel plate. The side you want may also have the idle stop attached to it. May even only have one screw in the center. Take the screw out, and look at the little gaskets and membranes. Look for the check flaps, they are likely stuck or sticking to the carb body. lift them up, and use a cottom swab to clean them, and the housing on both sides of them. If you want, you can try to remove the gasket/membrane...but sometimes they tear, I usually just clean under it to prevent the chance of leaks, or having to kit the whole carb, unles it is really gummed up and needs it anyways.

We all think badly of our equipment when it is down for repair....but that feeling passes when its all up and running again.

I cursed my truck last week because the power seat stopped working on the driver side...I would have liked to have pushed that truck off a cliff...Im only 5'4", and the seat was stuck in the "low" position...

Only a burnt fuse...now Im back lovin it again.:rockn: :rockn:

But it does seem ODD that you would have the exact same trouble with two identical Quality saws.
