Help with governer spring setup on old craftsman weed trimmer

Hey all.

Needed something to trim around the pond and picked up this old craftsman quantum 6.0 walk behind trimmer.

Got it running with a new carb and fuel line. Problem is, I cant figure out how the original governer spring setup is supposed to be so the throttle doesnt work and it just surges.

Was hoping maybe someone knew how these are set up? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Looks like the governor spring is stretched / distorted. Not sure how it hooks up either. Surging usually is a lean fuel mixture condition.

Without a governor it will be hard to control the rpm. There is reason why they put them on engines. I’ll have to look at my craftsman leaf vac when I get in the shed. Think it’s set up similar.
