Yes the pistons will interchange.

I'd say it's obvious why you have low compression. That ring is toast and you have some cleaning on that cylinder to do before you put a new slug and ring in. What are you using for oil and how much? How clean is your air filter. I'd hate to see anyone put this effort into a saw and repeat the issue from human error.

Air leak or lack of fuel overheated the piston, stuck the ring, scored the piston. I'll just threaten it a little with a big hammer. Maybe bring out the whips and chains. It won't take much to straighten that pup right up!
