I did some searching but couldn’t find any useful information about converting a 266 to 268 top end. Anyway my question is this. For those who’ve done it, what gasket did you use between the cylinder and air filter housing? The one that seals around the insulator block. I have 266 and 268 gaskets but it looks like the 268 one may not work. 266 gasket doesn’t seal completely around the 268 insulator block. Thoughts?

I,m thinking a 272, or 181. gasket?

I believe the 268 and the 272 both use the 272 style intake.
Indeed they do. What I’m trying to figure out is which seal to use. Either way it’s not gonna be perfect, I only have two choices. 266 seal or 268/272 seal. I’m gonna do some test fitting, I kinda feel like I can make the 268 seal work but I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to play with it. Was just curious what others have done in this situation. Seal I’m referring to goes around the isolator block.

Just curious, is this a conversion forced by lack of 266 cylinders or a quest for higher performance? The 266 and 268 having the same displacement.
I have the original cylinder. The saw was missing parts when I got it so I figured I’d build it into a frankensaw. It’s a 268XP cylinder and HS260 carb, don’t think I mentioned that previously.

Honestly running a hyway popup or a 268 windowed piston makes a 266 stronger I never swap out a 266 unless the cylinder is junk.
Meteor make a 266 specific piston now I've run several I'd them nice well built pistons.

Yeah I didn’t have to swap top ends, I basically did it because I could. I have thought about running the 268 style piston in my 266XP but that saw is so clean I wanted to keep it all original. I’d really like to run a pop up piston in this 266/268 I’m putting together.

Though they are the same bore and stroke, the 268XP Mahle cyl has a fairly substantial edge over the 266XP cyl. The transfers are much larger and they just plain make more power. Not saying the 266Xp is a slouch, as they are good runners but the 268XP is just an evolution of the same thing..... the 272XP became another evolution of the 266XP/268XP P&C....

I always use liquid gasket. The high temp stuff (red one).
