Limiter Caps on Walbro Carb

I have an 18 year old Stihl 029 chainsaw. Would like to clean the carb, but not sure how to remove limiter caps on Hi lo screws This particular saw has a Walbro HD 18B carb. The Hi Lo screws sit in a recessed area and do not stick out. The red limiter caps are flush with the back of the recessed area, There is a tiny slot next to each screw. Before I just start unscrewing and snapping these, any suggestions?

Grind the tip off a drywall screw, and tap that into the plastic, and then just give a yank. The red plug will yank right out.

Other guys will chime in to tell you to replace your crankcase seals.

Turn them until the little ridge on the red cap is visible in that little slot you mentioned. It'll be much easier coming out that way.
Then, as Harley mentioned, replace the seals.

Thanks for info, Jim. The 029 Super has been getting hard to start, and getting harder to pull the starter rope, especially with choke on. When started, it runs fine.
