I am looking for documenation on how bad it is to plant trees in tiny little raised beds. Not volcano mulching but when landscrapers put the ball a couple of inches into the ground a little soil around it and mulch. it seems to be a huge trend in our area. If they dont plant this way they plant 5 inches too deep. I can find all kinds of info on too deep but not about to high.

I've never used beds I'd call tiny, but the raised area's I've done have worked quite well. Can help trees that don't like wet feet get established in areas with slow soil.

Why don't they dig hole and feather out hole; plant ball two inches higher than existing grade spread roots out and prune out any circling roots then back fill with the existing soil and mulch to dripline and 6 to 12" from bark? Why is that sooooooooooooooo hard:monkey:
