My one-acre pond experienced high water levels for a few weeks last fall and the roots of my White Oak and Hickory tree were submerged. The Oak is approximately 18' trunk and hickory 14". Neither tree produced foliage this Spring but they both appear to have supple branches and soft twigs. I have carefully elevated some of the large lower branches on the White Oak to reduce load.
- How can I learn if they MIGHT be salvageable?
- If they CAN be, what is the best course to help them come back to health (nutrition, pruning, etc)?
Thank you for your thoughts on this topic.
