I am currently using an old mill woodstove from 1970's and am wondering if a newer stove with a secondary burner would save me $ on wood . Also what to replace it with ? Thanx !

Yep sure it would. I'm not familiar with the old mill stove so It's hard too compare but anything from the mid 90's and up will be better designed and certainly save you money on wood usage. Being from Vermont you have some good choices like Hearthstone (in Vermont) and Woodstock Soapstove on nearby NH too choose from. I'd love to have a new Woodstock fireview or classic in my house!
