Big pre-Christmas storm took down my favorite crooked tree.
Had over 70 cu yards of stacked branches come down in the yard (4 ac)
RBtree has a thread in the commercial section on folks who really got hit bad.
Figured this tree would fall 'someday' as it obviously had bark damage when the property was originally logged in 1917.

Anyway:
Have seen previous threads that advise to leave the cut on a removed branch untreated; however, this "branch" is bigger than most.

Plan on cutting the stub off at the yellow line on the photo, the vertical cut line is about 40 inches long. .

Should I just leave the cut bare?
Have considered covering it with tar. Will cut on an angle so the cut does not collect water.

NO TAR!!!!! And I agree you should have a better angle on the cut not so flat. Maybe like this /

Good luck!
