What is the thing called and where can I get one?

Mill guys use it to rough calculate the amount of lumber in a log.

They call it a log rule. They come in International, Doyle and Scribner scales. Find out what suits your needs if dealing with mills. One of our sponsors, Bailey's sells them.

Gotta yardstick does mine....and a pocket log calculator...when I bother..

If yer sawin' fer other folks...and using a band mill, Doyle will always make you look good...I typically yield about 30-40% over Doyle..

Thanky H137.

Can you expalin the dif before I go trekking off to investigate.

If it helps, here's why. I have trees down all the time, and want to know how much is in it, before making an appointment with my millers WM LT40. I can stockplie the log lengths, and put together a cut list and material takeoff much easier if I had one, but which one?

I would be building 300 to 2000 sq ft post and beam cabinas if I had enough time. and money to pay my miller. (all for personal use)

Thanks again
