Varmebaronen UB40 gassification boiler, hooked up to 660 gallons of water in used propane tanks for heat storage. 2700 sq.ft. 18 year old two storey over 1500 sq.ft. unfinished basement on exposed open windy hilltop.
Pros: Natural draft (no fans) [power outage friendly], pumps out a ton of heat, only need to actually be burning on average 6 hours a day (12 hours on the very coldest of winter days), easy on wood (5-6 cords per year), no smoke, no chimney cleaning, can heat DHW all year with it by burning a load every 4-5 days in summer, entire house is as warm as we want it to be.
Cons: Only possible con is having to make a new fire every day - but I would not go back to the 'old way' of making a fire once in October no how so not a con for me. Well, maybe one more - it wasn't cheap. But well worth the investment.
