Now that's interesting! I have always used them level and not noticed any issues. Which manufacturer's instructions tell you to rest the guide on the depth gauge?

I’ve seen it other places too. Not sure if I 100% agree, especially, if you consider @Okie ‘s comments, above.

But, generally, I have seen instructions to only file level with it: NOT at a 10° ‘down angle’. STIHL does not recommend a ‘down angle’ at all.

For the picco super chain the 11/64 or 4,5 mm file works a lot better than the 5/32 or 4,0mm untill the tooth is about half worn or so. This works for the rakers: https://www.stihl.no/nb/ap/ryttermal-krok-67816 raker guide for 3/8 lp 00008934007 the raker guide for the .325 can also be used, thats the one I use since I also use the RS pro chain. 00008934008 always one hard or it will be way to grabby.
