Very rusted chains.

Just bought some chainsaws from a guy who had them sitting outside for a couple of years. A few of the chains are like brand new (cutters), but very rusted. Too stiff to put on a saw, what does one use to soak the chains in to lloose up the rust. Hate to throw them away.

try soaking them in bar oil first if that dont work then try soaking them in something like a parts washer

soak em in Kerosein.diesel fuel or kroil for a day,then mount them up once loose and run them.

I use diesel also and let them soak...then mount them on the saw with a bit of slack in the adjustment screw and with the high rev...they will come loose for sure.

Put them a sealed container of diesel and throw that in the back of your truck for a week. Should be good to go after that.

See if you can get some used ATF (auto oil change shop) and mix it with a bit of kero/diesel

diesel/Kerosene and ATF sounds good to me.
Will try that first, cause I have both.

diesel and or tranny fluid for a few days, working them when you can, once they are somewhat plyable put em on a saw and cut some green wood.

After soaking in the diesel/ATF, hit them with a small wire brush to get the loose stuff off and rinse good with clean diesel before you put them on a saw.
