Could never get mine to go much more than 9000 with the limiter.
It's the Cadillac of Stihls though and I'm sad I sold it.

I must be lucky, my limited 076 i can get to about 9400, did you swap the carb for a non limited one or just put a solid plate below the limiter screw on yours?

Plugged the gov. on the 076, the carb is the same one that came from the factory. I can easily get more RPMs out of it, but don't really see the point - it cuts very well at that speed with the 42" bar in hardwood, and that's the only bar it ever sees...

Im glad to hear plugging the governor works out, im toying with the idea of porting one but the governor would kinda defeat the purpose imo

When I first got my 076, I clocked it at over 12k before I started backing the H out. I run it at about 10 now.

I asked Ed H about porting mine and he didn't recommend it. Something about vibrating enough as is.

How would a saw porting effect vibration that much? I dont really think its too bad to begin with though, but thats just me. My first saw was a mac 10-10, so vibs dont bother me too badly.

You're torturing me ya know... I gotta build a wood shed and put some money away for a tandem axle trailer... but if you end up with a real tight 660, I may have an 076 to trade against it... LOL
