I just bought an 044 off e-bay. I got it in the mail and it was like advertised. It had fell off a truck. Only thing I can see is a bent handle and a busted tank. It pulls like it has a lot of compression. Anyway I have never had an 044 and I hear you guys rave about them so I thought I would buy one. Here is my question. I have an 046 that wears a 20" bar with an 8pin. It's a great running saw. I use Huskys 254,350,and 346 for the smaller stuff. They all wear 16" bars. I'm wondering where this 044 will fit in. Will it make me no want to use the 046 because of the weight difference? I also have a MS880 with a 36" bar. And the guy that works on my saws is putting together a 066 for me(waiting on the piston) It will wear a 24" bar. so will this saw fit or am I better off with what I have. I already have some saws to sell that don't fit in right now. I have a 268 and a Shin 757 that are going to the auction block this week.

From a technical and spec point of view, it wont fit in. That said who cares? The 044 is a great saw and I cant see you not liking it. If you dont, sell it!

I've been running an 044 since new for over 10 years. I'm just about to take a first look at it's plug and check compression (would not have cared had I not joined AS). I'm a little more than a casual cutter as we have no heat in this house other than what I cut.. Saw has been, and stihl is, grrrrrate!!! I just bought it a slightly bigger brother-- The Univent. Enjoy the 044. It's a classic.

all you can expect nothing but awesome.really i wouldn't be surprised if it replaced the 046 because the 044 has same(ish) power with less weight.
