So, I am a senior in high school and plan to go to Virgina Tech after a year of community college. There I plan on getting a degree in industrial forestry opperations.

Today I came back to school after a week of spring break and everyone asked me what i did. I proceeded to tell them I modded my chain saw, cut a few trees down, sharpened some chains, and bidded on a tree removal/climbing job.

They just look at me and laugh. Untill I tell them how much i priced out the climbing job. haha

There is NO one my age that is even remotely intrested in this kind of stuff.
Am I crazy??:dizzy:

I'm 43, bought my first saw with my own money when I was 14. Mac 610, still got it and many others. We are a bit in a social minority group, but it's everyone else that is strange. Good luck with school and life.

Sounds to me you have you have your head screwed on straight.
Keep playing with saws ,go to collage and you'll get the last laugh
Good luck

There is nothing wrong with you. Wen I was your age all of my free time was spent working, I may have missed out on some of the less important stuff but wen I wanted to do something I had money in my pocket that I didn't't spend on drugs and stupid stuff because I new what it took to earn it. now I am 33 years old my truck is old but my house is almost paid fore then I will get a descent one. Just don't forget to enjoy your self once in a wile, your only young once. sorry about being long winded but this is one of my biggest pet peeves kids today don't understand what it takes to earn money. I have two Friends with homes in foreclose as we speak just because they don't understand the value of money. I cant help but think if they had to do more for themselves wen they were younger they wouldn't be in the mess they are in today.

I was alot younger than that when I knew that I was doomed with CAD, I just did'nt have a name for it.

+1 My favorite time is in my shop or cutting timber. (I don't get to do as much of either as I would like anymore) You have a good plan stick with it. People think you're wierd? I think that a society that gets the bulk of it's news through pop culture outlets is wierd. Anyone who spends even a second worrying about what "Britney" is doing (unless she is naked) is wierd in my book.

A friend that I went to school w/ got in a pissing match with a teacher jsut before graduation...The teacher told him he would never make anything of himself but a ditch digger...Wouldn't you know it he owns one of the most sucessful excavating companys in the area...I would truly guess his net worth is 10+ times the teachers...He is just a good old boy that is not afraid to WORK...And from what I have seen or read neither are you...

yea i am the same way, i love saws and work on my family's farm in almost all my spare time which gives me the money i need for my CAD addiction. most kids in my class havent thought about jobs and wonder where all my money comes from! and im only a sophomore in high school

Time is something you never get back. You actually did something productive, even if only you got your feet wet in the business (any business). A lot of younger folk don't work hard or learn a practical skill until after school (high school or college) and they don't know what the workplace is all about. Since you are getting exposed to the career path even before enrolling at VT, you are that much ahead in "the game." You may even learn that you don't like what you thought would be enjoyable, but even with that, you're still ahead of the rest of them. Good on you!

Yea, I think if you work hard enough you can achieve whatever you want.
